One of the many great things about this recipe is that you can easily make it ahead of time, leave it to rest, and then bake it later, all the while actually making it better through waiting! This one is super filling and tastes far too decadent to be both light and full of nutrients.
So, my Mom’s experience suggests that I might be haunted by unsolicited privates for a long time to come. But, at least I know that while I’m cringing away in horror, I’ll always be well fed. This recipe has no ratings just yet.

Baked Ziti With Turkey Sausage
Ingredients
- 12 oz high-fiber pasta
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- ¼ cup onion minced
- 1 lb Italian turkey sausage
- 3 cups marinara sauce
- 4 cups baby spinach
- 8 oz low-fat ricotta cheese
- 2 cups low-fat mozzarella cheese divided
- ½ cup grated parmesan cheese divided
- Salt pepper, garlic powder to taste
Instructions
- Step 1 Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- Step 2 Cook pasta according to package directions for al dente
- Step 3 Spray a large skillet with cooking spray. Add onions and garlic
- Step 4 Remove sausage meat from casings and add to the skillet. Cook over medium heat until meat is cooked through, about 5 minutes
- Step 5 Add marinara sauce and spinach to skillet and stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper and simmer until spinach is wilted, about 5 more minutes
- Step 6 In a medium sized bowl, combine ricotta, 1 cup of mozzarella and 6 tablespoons of parmesan cheese. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder
- Step 7 Spray a 9 x 13 dish with cooking spray. Add half of the cooked pasta. Top with half of the meat and spinach sauce
- Step 8 Spread cheese mixture over sauce, then top with remaining pasta, then remaining sauce
- Step 9 Sprinkle remaining cup of mozzarella and 2 tablespoons of parmesan evenly over the entire dish
- Step 10 Cover dish with tin foil and bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove foil and continue to bake for about 7 minutes or until cheese is melted and browned and edges are bubbling
NOT-SO-PRO TIPS
Pasta gets a bad rep sometimes but there are some brands that make really nutritious options! My personal favorites are Ronzoni Smart Taste and Dreamfields. You can use whichever marinara sauce is your favorite but I am obsessed with Victoria! It’s lower in sugar than most store bought sauces but still has tons of flavor
